International Partnerships Formalized with Global Talent Mentoring

Glob­al Tal­ent Men­tor­ing has secured offi­cial part­ner­ships with insti­tu­tions in STEMM in more than thir­ty coun­tries to date. Such part­ner­ships pro­vide Glob­al Tal­ent Men­tor­ing with essen­tial sup­port through access to their net­works of top-tier stu­dents and experts who will par­tic­i­pate as mentees and men­tors. Among the signees are the Illi­nois Math­e­mat­ics and Sci­ence Acad­e­my (IMSA), one of the best pub­lic high schools in the Unit­ed States, the Hong Kong Acad­e­my for Gift­ed Edu­ca­tion, a non-gov­ern­men­tal orga­ni­za­tion offer­ing learn­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties for high­ly tal­ent­ed youth, and the Bul­gar­i­an Min­istry of Edu­ca­tion and Sci­ence. More part­ner­ships will fol­low, which will fur­ther expand the already inter­na­tion­al­ly diverse list of part­ner insti­tu­tions.

Glob­al Tal­ent Men­tor­ing is a flag­ship offer­ing of the future World Gift­ed­ness Cen­ter, a larg­er under­tak­ing that will be an online hub for evi­dence-based gift­ed edu­ca­tion and research. When it opens its vir­tu­al doors in late 2021, the World Gift­ed­ness Cen­ter will facil­i­tate stronger links between research and prac­tice by pro­vid­ing instruc­tion­al mate­ri­als, host­ing train­ing sem­i­nars, pub­lish­ing a sci­en­tif­ic jour­nal, and estab­lish­ing an inter­na­tion­al accred­i­ta­tion sys­tem for gift­ed edu­ca­tion and research. The World Gift­ed­ness Cen­ter is a project by the UNESCO-rec­og­nized Ham­dan Bin Rashid Al Mak­toum Foun­da­tion for Dis­tin­guished Aca­d­e­m­ic Per­for­mance.

Global Talent Mentoring in Taiwan

The Project Direc­tor, Prof. Dr. Hei­drun Stoeger, and part of the Glob­al Tal­ent Men­tor­ingteam attend­ed the 6th Con­fer­ence of the Inter­na­tion­al Research Asso­ci­a­tion for Tal­ent Devel­op­ment and Excel­lence (IRATDE) in Taipei, Tai­wan in April. Prof. Stoeger gave one of the keynotes. She spoke about the impor­tance of self-reg­u­lat­ed learn­ing for gift­ed stu­dents and tal­ent development—a sub­ject that will be part of the men­tor­ing con­cept of Glob­al Tal­ent Men­tor­ing, too.

Mem­bers of the team were also par­tic­i­pat­ing in the con­fer­ence: Dr. Lin­lin Luo and Matthias Mad­er pre­sent­ed Glob­al Tal­ent Men­tor­ing™ and one of its core fea­tures, the “Plan­ning of Indi­vid­u­al­ized Learn­ing Path­ways”, in a sym­po­sium on “Men­tor­ing for High Achiev­ers in STEM”. Dr. Michael Heile­mann par­tic­i­pat­ed in the same sym­po­sium with his find­ings on “The Influ­ence of Learn­ing Resources on Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Behav­ior and Men­tor­ing Suc­cess in an Online-Men­tor­ing Pro­gram for Tal­ent­ed Girls”. Final­ly, Dr. Daniel Balestri­ni pre­sent­ed his research on “Sub­stan­ti­at­ing Cul­tur­al Ori­en­ta­tions Sup­port­ive of High Aca­d­e­m­ic Achieve­ment” in East Asia and the Unit­ed States.

The very well orga­nized con­fer­ence with the mot­to “Nur­tur­ing Poten­tials Into Full Bloom and Into Excel­lence” was a great suc­cess. The Glob­al Tal­ent Men­tor­ing™ team used the oppor­tu­ni­ty to fur­ther expand the net­work for recruit­ing mentees and men­tors and to estab­lish con­tacts for future coöper­a­tion with tal­ent devel­op­ment experts from all over the world. Among oth­ers we dis­cussed Glob­al Tal­ent Men­tor­ing™ with researchers and prac­ti­tion­ers from the USA, India and, of course, var­i­ous East Asian coun­tries. All of them were very inter­est­ed and eager to par­tic­i­pate in Glob­al Tal­ent Men­tor­ing™.
