Welcome to the second edition of The Hub! We are excited about the many developments that have taken place over the last few months. Our team has been hard at work expanding our network, which now consists of 23 partners representing more than 80 countries on all populated continents. We thank all of those in our network for their continued great work on behalf of Global Talent Mentoring!

Our partners have been doing excellent work bringing together the very best talented youths and experts in STEMM to participate in Global Talent Mentoring as mentees and mentors. Building on this success, we continue to expand our network. If you or someone in your network is interested in a cooperation with Global Talent Mentoring, please help us spread the word and send us a message at info@globaltalentmentoring.org. Additionally, if you or individuals at your organization are researchers or developers within a STEMM field, we encourage you to volunteer as a mentor by completing the Mentor Volunteer Form.

In each newsletter, we highlight supporters of Global Talent Mentoring. This month, we are featuring two of our partners, one taking on a coordination role within Europe and the other in the United States.

FEANI
|
|
|
|
The Federation of National Engineering Associations (Fédération Européenne d’Associations Nationales d’Ingénieurs or FEANI) is one of Global Talent Mentoring’s European partners and has agreed to nominate engineering mentors from across Europe. FEANI is a European federation of professional engineers based in Brussels, Belgium, that unites national associations from 32 European Higher Education Area (EHEA) countries. Managed by Secretary General Mr. Dirk Bochar, the international non-profit organization strives for a single voice for the engineering profession in Europe with the goal of affirming and developing the professional identity of engineers. To this end, FEANI aims to facilitate the mutual recognition of engineering qualifications in Europe and to strengthen the position, role, and responsibility of engineers in society. FEANI and Prof. Dr. Stoeger jointly support the Engineers Europe Advisory Group (EEAG), which strives to foster stronger relations between European academia, Professional Organizations, and European industry, focusing on—amongst other initiatives—STEM.

|
Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is one of the world’s leading teaching and learning laboratories for fostering imagination and inquiry in STEM. An esteemed three-year residential high school for grades 10–12 located in Aurora, Illinois (United States), IMSA was ranked among the top two public high schools in the U.S. by Niche.com and included in the top 40 public and private college and preparatory institutions in the world by The Wall Street Journal. IMSA’s rich learning experiences include the Student Inquiry and Research program, which encourages original student projects, student–researcher collaborations, and student publications. Global Talent Mentoring has partnered with Dr. José M. Torres, IMSA President and CEO, to nominate the very best mentees from IMSA and its wide network through the International Student Science Network (ISSN), composed of approximately 100 schools. IMSA’s mission to ignite and nurture creative, ethical, scientific minds that advance the human condition is evident in its notable alumni, who include YouTube co-founder Steve Chen, PayPal co-creator Yu Pan, and Yelp co-founder Russel Simmons. Through its network of parents, supporters, and alumni, IMSA is also actively recruiting STEM experts to serve as mentor volunteers.

Global Talent Mentoring featured on School Education Gateway website
|
|
|
|
Last month, Global Talent Mentoring was featured in an article by School Education Gateway, an offering by the EU Erasmus+ program. School Education Gateway is a program of the European Commission to support education, training, and youth across Europe as part of the Europe 2020 strategy. We are very happy for this recognition within the European Union and look forward to future opportunities to present Global Talent Mentoring to other international audiences.

Prof. Dr. Heidrun Stoeger was invited to speak at the annual meeting of the UNESCO International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030 on 9 December 2019 in Dubai (UAE). The International Task Force on Teachers for Education, consisting of 143 member organizations from 90 countries, is an undertaking by the UNESCO initiative Education for All (EFA). The task force mobilizes governments and other stakeholders for the advancement of teachers and quality teaching. At the annual meeting of the task force, the Twelfth Policy Dialogue Forum in Dubai, Prof. Dr. Stoeger shared with the delegates the power of online mentoring and networking to help countries develop their national STEMM talent pools.
